What does the $49 kit include?
Disclosure text and a snippet for one website. It is not a lawyer review, and it does not cover anything beyond the chatbot notice.
Is this legal advice?
No. Nothing here is legal advice. It's a plain-language starting point for the chatbot disclosure requirement.
Does this cover the whole AI Act?
No. It covers Article 50(1) chatbot transparency only - not high-risk systems, GPAI, deepfake labelling, or GDPR.
Is this my legal duty, or my chatbot company's?
Article 50(1) puts the duty on the provider - the company that makes the chatbot. If you built your own, that's likely you. If you use a tool like Tidio or Intercom, it's the vendor's duty, but vendors don't always switch a notice on and some put that responsibility on customers in their terms, so it's worth checking.
We're a UK-only shop. Does this still apply to us?
Where your business is based doesn't decide it - what matters is whether people in the EU use the chat, and who provides the chatbot (see above). If no one in the EU uses your chat, this likely doesn't concern you.
Is a footer notice enough?
Article 50 says people must be told clearly, at the latest at their first interaction. A line in the chat's opening message, or right next to the chat, is the clearest option. A footer notice on its own may not be seen before someone starts chatting, so use it as a back-up, not the only notice.
Does Article 50 apply if I use Intercom, Tidio or Crisp?
The legal duty sits with the vendor as the provider of the AI. But vendors don't always switch a notice on - Intercom's AI label is off by default for newer setups - and some put the responsibility on customers in their terms. Our tool guides show where to check.
What if it's already obvious my chatbot is a bot?
The rule doesn't apply when it's obvious to a reasonably well-informed person in context. A chat clearly labelled 'AI assistant' may already meet that. A bot with a human name and a photo, and no label, probably doesn't.
